Introducing the New WeTransfer
Lots of new features with the simplicity you're used to.
17 SEPTEMBER 2012, AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
SummaryWeTransfer is excited to introduce the new version of their service. The new WeTransfer still offers the simple and free 2GB transfers millions of people have come to love, all without needing to register. The service has a new design, and offers Plus features that includes file transfers of 5GB storage up to 50GB, an address book, and the ability to password protect your files.
To make simple better, we're proud to launch the New WeTransfer. The New WeTransfer boasts many new features.
WeTransfer believes in a service that is clutter-free, simple, and spreads inspiration. Applying this criteria, we've created a space and experience that users can connect to. WeTransfer uses nearly the entire screen as a canvas displaying art, design, products, and music to those using the service. Adding features while keeping our service simple was a difficult task. We believe the New WeTransfer is a step forward, offering more space & features for users who need it, and a better functionality without us getting in the way.
We've improved our backend as well. Since 2009, WeTransfer has sent over 193 million transfers. Last month WeTransfer provided transfers for over 10 million users, an astonishing number we're still buzzing over. We're humbled to know that we've grown larger than some of the companies we look up to, including Basecamp, Path, and Wunderlist. We're close to being the biggest transfer service on the web, surpassing the number of files sent through similar competitors and beating out Yousendit in some parts of the world.
Bootstrapped since day one, WeTransfer has always been self funded, and through it all we've steadily grown our financial stability.
Plus gives you the amazing ability to send a simple, secure, and not to mention whopping 5GB transfer. Big transfers need to be secure, so to ensure your files are sent properly we're also offering resumable uploads that let you continue where you left off–just in case you need to shut that laptop and run out the door. Plus also provides space to store your files indefinitely, offering up to 50GB of online storage. Other features include an address book, sharing via Twitter and Facebook, password protection, and the ability to send files to 100 recipients.
Plus is available for $120 a year. Setup is fast and simple, just as WeTransfer has always been.

WeTransfer is the simplest way to send your files around the world. The service was founded in 2009 in Amsterdam by Bas Beerens and Nalden, who wanted to create an easy platform for people to send big files without any sign-up. Today, 40 million active users across 195 countries transfer one billion files every month. It is WeTransfer’s mission to enable the effortless transfer of ideas from one creative mind to many. We want to help our users get in, and stay in, their creative flow – that strange and beautiful state where everything comes together and great things happen.
WeTransfer has a dual revenue model, split between advertising and premium subscriptions. With WeTransfer Plus, customers benefit from bigger transfer sizes, storage and personalization options. WeTransfer also works with the world's biggest brands, including Google, Samsung, Netflix and Squarespace, to develop and deliver beautiful, full-screen advertisements on our background wallpapers.
Since day one, WeTransfer has proudly supported the creative communities by giving away 30% of the advertising space to showcase projects we love. With WeTransfer Studios, creative partnerships have been launched with some of the world's most interesting individuals and organizations, including FKA twigs, Rankin, Anderson .Paak, McSweeney's, World Press Photo, The Royal Academy of Arts and the Ace Hotel Group. On our content platform This Works, we tell the stories behind the creative work we curate and create. WeTransfer also supports tomorrow’s creative leaders by offering free premium accounts to all arts students in the United States.
Following a $25 million investment from Highland Capital in 2015, WeTransfer opened a US office in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, to add to the Amsterdam headquarters.
